One Last Thing

I'm not good at goodbyes (I literally have to make a conscious effort to say goodbye to people in order to not offend them) so in case comments and/or commenters don't come back: uh goodbye.

OK now with that out of the way I want to take advantage of the temporarily touchy feely environment for my own nefarious purposes. If you don't mind could you leave a comment stating your profession and/or skillset/interests either here or on my cross linked blog. I say this because in reality the intent of my entire blogging career was a big long setup to make connections that I could then utilize for real world projects that I am kick starting shortly and am seeking interest. Thanks.

  1. Mikkel,

I'm retired now, so no formal profession anymore, but I worked for years as a book production editor and a freelance copyeditor and proofreader. Obviously, I can write, and I'm a pretty good critical thinker. You probably already know many of the political issues that interest me, but there are other subjects I tend to read about more than I write about them -- for example, religion, and breaking that down: religiosity, fundamentalism and progressivism in religion; spirituality and mysticism, particularly as those relate to Judaism; Jewishness, Jewish history, culture, observance, tradition.

Also, completely unrelated, I love typing. Or I guess now we'd call it keyboarding.I've transcribed tapes, and I enjoy that.

I love animals, especially dogs, cats, and horses. I love to read about them, be with them, talk about them, etc.

I don't know how much this relates to the projects you have in mind, but that's what comes to mind.

  2. OK...I am by title a computer programmer. In reality my job for a small chain of funeral homes entails taking care of pretty much anything even vaguely technical, from the fax machines to server and network configuration. I even did part of the programming for the phone systems after I helped acquire them. I shop a lot for the company when it comes to equipment and software and do a ton of research on the internet for a variety of subjects. While I have an AS degree in computer science pretty much everything I actually do on a daily basis involves skills I acquire for myself, including things like the Ubuntu server I'm configuring right now for a mail server hosting several virtual domains.

Interests? Too many. If all of my credit hours were in one major instead of split between chemistry, education with a speech and drama emphasis (english minor) and computer science I'd probably have a bachelor's degree. I can't remember a time when I couldn't read. What I really love to read are science fiction, fantasy, graphic novels and mysteries. I've been an active science fiction fan for over 30 years. And now I've rambled on enough.

  3. Hey Kathy, thanks for replying. I have a few projects but the primary one is that I'm trying to get local groups interested in installing aquaponic systems (like at www.portablefarms.com) to foster local production of food and nutrition programs. I am trying to get people on board on the technical side, community development side and investment side. Obviously there will be a lot of communication material so if that is something that interests you then it would be a good fit.

  4. Hi Mikkel,

I'm a linguist by education. I'm defending my dissertation in May. Jobs... harder call. I might be able to get a teaching gig next year, or I might need to enter industry. I've previously spent a few years in technical support and I was a project manager for a software company. I only do rudimentary programming myself in things like R and Matlab.

It's going to be hard for me to help with much for a bit until I'm settled. For instance, I'd be somewhat interested in aquaponic farms, but right now I'm in one state and I'm literally sending applications all over the world, so I have no idea where I will be in 4 months.

  5. Hi Mikkel,

ShannonLee here. Now that TMV is basically shutdown, I'll start blogging again under this name, I have it on blogspot too but can't find the password. If you visit, please ignore the old blogs, man I was new to blogging and writing political opinions back then.

    A little about me....

I am a computer programmer. Spent most of my time in the credit card processing business. I have done a lot of database and web work. I am currently starting a webdesign business in Germany.

My interests are basketball(played professional in Germany), surfing (average surfer at best), and helping my wife adjust into her new research environment....germans hate change.
